Oil Painting Fundamentals

The workshop is available to take in-person at my studio and will also be broadcasting via Zoom for those who can’t attend in-person.

About the workshop:

This workshop will provide students all the necessary information to gain confidence in using oils. Oil painting is quite forgiving and allows us to achieve effects that can’t be achieved in other painting mediums. I will also be showing you tricks to make clean up less intimidating and easy and how oils aren’t dangerous if you eliminate or use mineral spirits sparingly.. This class is for anyone that is new to oil painting or someone who has experience but wants to learn additional tips and tricks.

We will discuss the following:

• Oil Painting Safety - Misconceptions

• Preparing painting surfaces

• Transferring a drawing to canvas or panel

• Cleaning brushes

• Mediums - Fast drying and handling

• Painting without using solvent

• Application of paint - Brushes and other tools

• Underpainting - Open & Closed Grisaille

• Indirect Painting (layers) & Direct Painting

• Drying times - This can be controlled!

• Colour Mixing tips and tricks!

• And much more…

Materials:

You will be sent a material list 2 weeks prior to the class. One doesn’t need to spend a lot of money when learning oil painting. I will provide a limited material list and we will discuss more materials in class that you can add at anytime.
